First of all it was never great in history. Second of all, you must be humans to have a great country. Turkey fails in that aspect.

I don't think Turkey was ever great to begin with, the turks, unfortunately, don't have anything to fall back on to call their own (their tradition, culture and religion is Islamic which is an Arab way of life then it is of a non Arab).
Plus the country itself is unpredictable, the turks are declining in numbers due to secularism (low birth rates, homosexuality etc) while the Kurds are on the rise, demographic will change in the coming here so the nation itself won't be the same.
