Reagan was like the Kennedy of republicans. He wasn't all good but he was the best damn republican in recent memory. Bush senior? Lackluster. Bush junior? Generally hated by all. Reagan? A likable, trustworthy, honest, tough, fair man who did wonders for the economy and pulled all the right strings in foreign affairs. The one downside i see in him now is the drug war, but though seemingly recent, those were much different times in that regard. He replaced jimmy carter who everyone remembers as "such a nice guy" but seem to forget he was in charge of a stagnant economy and had zero balls in foreign policy. He was the American Margaret Thatcher.

Not really. Reagan is basically the grandfather of the modern Orwellian Republican party. He'd say one thing, and then do something else, and if you ever questioned him everyone looked at you like you were a fucking heathen and they wanted to burn you at the stake.

Reagan was hated by the GOP establishment and moderates too, was a fringe insurgent candidate against the Nixon/Ford/Bush machine men.
