As an Alaskan who moved to Texas, probably the relatively smaller communities + being very religious.
Leaders in business tend to know each other, and tend to know religious leaders. The employees and followers are more likely to know someone who knows these leaders. And a kind of peer pressure influences their voting.
Also, there used to be a lot of people in Amway in Alaska.(Maybe it's still a thing there, I don't know) Amway guys tend to be very right wing religious types as well.
