The problem in America is that we have a bunch of cucked idiots who've been entrained to think we actually have a free-market health care system when, in reality, 60% of ALL health care revenue comes direct from the taxpayer in the form of Medicare and Medicaid. And the only people who are allowed to use those two programs are elderly and poor non-taxpayers. And the government sucks at negotiating prices with hospitals, inadvertently driving up the prices for people who are not on those programs, so the people who are paying for health care end up paying twice as much as a person in any other developed country.
So America right now actually has what is basically a communist system where productive members of society have to pay for the poor and the sick (don't forget that if you're dying a hospital has to treat you even if you can't pay, so the costs of that get forced onto people who can) and get jack shit in return. In that manner, a socialized system would actually be an improvement, but both the GOP and the Dems are cucks to the health care industry, hence why a small-government conservative like Bush expanded Medicare in '04 and why the Dems massive health care overhaul was really just another taxpayer-funded giveaway to insurers and providers.

I work in medicine and come from a family full of doctors and nurses. Socialized medicine can't work in America. It barely works elsewhere. That's not to say the private insurance industry isn't fucked up and in desperate need of reform, but it works better than socialized medicine.

Unless you already have an established connection with a doctor in their own practice, your new insurance will basically only be accepted by non-private practice doctors. The ones with their own practice don't want a pay cut, and don't have to take your business. Waiting lines are already huge for public clinics.
Also, because there is no co-pay for the ER, lot of people are flooding there and are giving triage hell.
