Meh

Wish they would bring back the SR-71 design, not nessarily for a bomber but a plane in general

Good for you.

Spend your money on more useless shit that will never see action.

how is it different from the old one
>>
>>65509851
Apparently the sr-72 is being developed. So that means it's probably being flown by test pilots now
>>
>>65509990

But you did that for 15 years in the Middle East.
>>
>>65509660
Is it going to be a money pit like the F-35? I'm getting tire of spending money we don't have for crap we don't need.
>>
It looks almost exactly the same as the B-2, are you sure it's a new model?

Might just be Northrop ricing the fuck out of a B-2 and getting mad tax dollars.
>>
>>65510268

The B-2 deserves to be riced up. It's a piece of shit that requires too much maintenance to fly often. Currently and there are only a handful in existence.
>>
>>65510448
If anything needs to be riced up it's the a-10. We have enough bomber platforms
>>
Too bad we can't see that a long range nuclear equipped bomber, a decent fighter or ucav, nuclear submarines and the national guard are pretty much all we need in terms of defense.

The rest of the military is a waste of money.

There are two oceans between us and any serious conventional threats.

But of course, the military's purpose isn't to defend us, it's to kill sand niggers in the name of Israel.
>>
>>65510448
They'll probably use cool new materials on this one. Like that mesh they have so they don't have to re paint it with expensive stuff all of the time. It looks like they'll also be using the new s shaped intakes.

I like it. If you have something that works, no need for an overhaul. Hopefully they can use things they've learned from the b2 to save money
>>
>>65509660
>implying it's not already built

The announcement article even mentioned it being modular in nature. Just like the Ghoul

so when are we shooting one down again
>>
>>65510695
That's literally what they wanted the f35 for. A faster and stealthier a10 that can sometimes sort of "dogfight."
>>
>>65510006
Really? Why? The SR-71 was rendered obsolete by satellites, what's changed that'd make a spy-plane useful?

Or is it just a social program to support struggling aerospace contractors with US government money?
>>
>>65510268
it's only an artists rendering

I doubt the photoshop nerd that made it was even allowed to see what exists of it at this point. They
probably just said make the old one sleeker.
>>
This thing will have a MODULAR PAYLOAD that can hold bombs or recon and surveillance equipment.

SB-3 Ghoul guy seems like less of a bullshitter to me now.

F35 fills a different role. It's a stealth fighter, bomber, and SEAD platform.

The A10 is for close air support.
>>
>>65509877

>never see action

You really don't understand the purpose of military, do you?

If it never sees action that means it fulfilled its purpose.

Direct conflict only happens when you are percieved as weak enough by your enemies that they feel comfortable in challenging you.
>>
>>65511138

never probably

is it just me or does this seem like a terrible idea. How can it possible be a good idea, to use a presumably nuclear capable strategic bomber as a reconnaissance platform.

It's like the cruise missile debate all over again.

it's not very stealthy is it?
i can see it clearly in that picture
>>
Does it fly back after you throw it?
>>
>>65512306

Savings? Instead of 3 fleets of aircraft and 3 different sets of crews, you now have one plane and one crew (with maybe an extra guy trained for Recon instead of bombing) and if the modular systems can be swapped quickly, it's not putting too many planes out of service at any time.
>>
>>65512607
Actually it's very stealthy. In this picture it's just disguised itself as a B2.
>>
>>65509660

It's not the same thing as the Ghoul, if that thing actually exists.

It's more of an improved B-2 with more mature and reliable technology that will be easier to mass produce and maintain. Should have significantly better capabilities too.
>>

>our

you're representative of military-industrial complex or just another pleb counting as >ours if your flag is on it?
>>
>>65512703
But it could lead to enormous misunderstanding and escalation. In moment of tension a hostile enemy, could never be sure that your recon plane wasn't about to blow them to hell. They'd have to treat every sortie as a potentially existential threat, which in the context of NUCLEAR capable aircraft, means responses could include first strike options.

It fucking madness.

>>
>>65509660

You can't improve upon perfection
>>
>>65513422

That's possible, but I doubt this would be flown over a nuclear country in a time of peace or tension. (The Open Skies Treaty does a pretty good job letting enemies fly over installations they're worried about without concern for shoot-down.)

I imagine in a Recce role, it would be for places like Afghanistan or Africa at this time.

Should hostilities break out with Russia or China, having low-observable aircraft with jamming and ELINT capabilities flying the sorties with the bombers would be advantageous in protecting the bombers until they reach their targets.

Looks expensive.

So when is WW3 happening? I mean why else are we buying all this expensive dumb shit when we already outclass every country combined for decades.
>>
>>65514928

Tensions are heating up between the Western bloc and Iran-Russia and China.

The real purpose of all of this equipment and readiness is deterrence. Peace through strength and all that.
>>
>>65514928

We need to be able to continue to outclass them Ruskies.

The B-52s are in need of retirement. The youngest B-52 (Tail # 61-040) is 54 years old and has well over 21,500 flight hours to her name.

That's the youngest.

The B-2s are only 21 in number, rapidly losing their skin (and need special hangers so the RAM doesn't peel off further) and the Russians can track them on radar now.

>>
>>65509660
>What does /pol/ thinks about our new bomber?

It's literally B-2 with cheaper to maintain RAM and slightly smaller bomb load. Relatively low risk program. Basically B-2 Spirit with reasonable operations costs and decent numbers so R&D costs per airframe won't be insane.
>>
>>65511201

Sr-71 remained in service as long as it did because it could collect time critical intelligence. Satellites are easy to track and predict when they are above. It's easy to hide stuff from photographic recon satellites if you know what happens on orbit. Spy planes are harder to predict. Even if those have worse position to photograph shit.
>>
>>65519661

Fly-away costs are expected to be only $550 million compared to the B-2's $2.3 Billion.

That's a bargain in terms of a LO bomber.
