here is a short rundown for you, most of Russians economy is based on the sale of oil and gas.
before the ukraine "crisis" Russia sold oil and gas to EU and China.
now because 2 groups are competing for the oil, it then forces the price up.
When EU sanctioned Russia they also sanctioned the sale of oil and gas which ment that Russia could only sell to China, who then could get it at a cheaper price because no one else wanted to buy it.
Sadly the only real winner is China. Eu loses a bit because they have to buy oil a bit more expensive from other parties and Russia loses big because they cant offload oil/gas to a good price.
