Buy in bulk - if you see meat or say Ravioli on sale for a great price, buy in bulk and freeze.

I would estimate the cost difference as about +15% - 30% what it would be in the south, depending on the item, and we generally have higher wages here anyways.
Only issues is that the grocery stores often run low on things, as shipments of food arrive less frequently.
