Fanboys are their BRRRRRRRRRT plane that don't know that it's not about fucking dogfights anymore. What's better, fucking top gun level dog fights or killing your enemy from a long range air to air missile attack?

Its a fucking horrible aircraft. My LO friends hate their lives, because anytime a panel is removed for work, they have to recoat the entire area to maintain its radar properties.

Yeah, good dogfighting is the most important quality for a plane to have when there haven't been dogfights for over 15 years.
>>
>>59978032

cuz there's a roachflag bumper sticker on it
>>
>>59978254

the F-35 has longer fucking range. There's no point in an f-22 fighting in f-35 as both are hard to lock-on to. No doubt the F-22 would beat the F-35, but the F-35 can beat any other jet so long as it stays at a far enough distance. This isn't fucking top gun or fallout. War does change. We fucking use drones now more than multi trillion dolalr jets. Why risk losing a 300 million dollar jet?
>>
>>59978253

That seems odd considering that the F-35 hasn't seen combat yet.

Because it is the most advanced fighter to be ever produced. The difference between F-35 and current fighters (except F-22 which also is inferior in some of it's sensors, intelligence gathering and communication web but superior in Radar detectibility in non-frontal areas) is larger than the fire control system Germans produced in WWI compared to Allied aircrafts.

It will simply change the power structure in the world as Russians are simply incapable of achieving the high tech needed to build someting similar. Japan and Korea will have clearair superiority over China, Turkey and Israel will continue their undisputed Air superiority over Middle East while Turkey will have the edge against Russia and Europe will protect/increase it's Air superiority over Russia.

>inb4 Pak-Fa

It's shit

>inb4 J-20

Nothing solid yet, they copied F-35 design pretty good but most military literate people are doubtful of China's ability to match NATO on high tech NATO equipment specially when they still can't produce a hjet engine worth a damn or need Israeli (US copied/stolen) tech for even 4th gen radars.

People hat every new military project because they expect a perfect project, all the while the government keeps changing what it wants when it wants it and how many it wants of them.

Because it was built on broken promises.
A precursory google search would explain the common issues. You only brought this up here to leery enthusiasts and know nothing contrarions argue over it.
Long story short:
It's over cost
It was billed as a single jet to perform for three branches. That never happened.
It's capabilities were sold theoretically. Reality said otherwise.
A lot of countries bought into the hype. Most are asking for refunds now, and those that aren't are fighting buyers remorse.

Callsigns typically are given to you by your squad based on some embarrassing shit you did. The goal is to make it sound cool to everyone else but you and the squad remember about the one time you really fucked up.

For example. My Navy buddy knew a guy with the callsign "DASH". Sounds reasonably cool. But its an acronym for Dumb Ass Shot Himself. A fun game to play is to try to figure out someones embarrassing moment based on their callsign.

The Marine Corps, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force need and want a short takeoff and vertical landing aircraft, dubbed the F-35B. The Marines want new aircraft to replace their AV-8B Harriers and F/A-18 Hornets. The British want to replace Sea Harriers and GR.7 Tornado fighters. The matter of fact is, 'Murica wasted billions upon billions on an aircraft that won't be able to use it's "entire force" against anyone important.

>The defense
strategy depends on investing every dollar where
it will have the greatest effect, which the Budget
will accomplish through critical reforms that divest
unneeded force structure, slow growth in
compensation, and reduce wasteful overhead. To
direct investments toward a ready, technologically
superior force, the military must shed unnecessary
force structure now that ground combat
missions in Iraq and Afghanistan have ended.
Venerable weapons systems, such as the A-10
aircraft, have performed decades of service, yet
would now face survivability challenges against
a technologically advanced adversary. Therefore,
the Budget reproposes the retirement of this and
other systems, and directs the money saved toward
investment in the most capable, versatile,
and survivable systems to perform their missions.
The Budget also reduces overhead and waste by
continuing the initiative to reduce DOD’s major
headquarters’ operating budgets by 20 percent,
pursuing acquisition reform through the Better
Buying Power initiative, and proposing another
round of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC)
to free resources currently consumed by maintaining
unneeded facilities. The need to reduce
unneeded facilities is so critical that, in the absence
of authorization of a new round of BRAC,
the Administration will pursue alternative
options to reduce this wasteful spending.

Firing a missile does not reveal your aircraft. This isn't some video game with quirks for game balance.
>>
>>59981858

The F-4 was used for bombing missions, which means that it had to go into enemy territory and perform dangerous missions. The MiG-21 was never used for bombing missions because:

1. It had shit range because of the fuel tanks were poorly designed and make the entire airframe unstable (and not in a good way)
2. It could only carry two bombs, and it had to give up all missile slots just to do that, meaning that it would be defenseless if ambushed.

Modern tech can track the missile and reveal the area where the enemy aircraft is located.
As soon as the missile leaves the plane, it's visible to the radars.

Stop thinking real life works like it does in video games, a missile will not be detected by a radar as soon as it is launched.

And that is assuming the target is actively scanning, which reveals your position like a lighthouse in the night making you a target for passively guided weapons.
>>
>>59982300

I didn't acknowledge it

you told me to read the 2016 fiscal year report so i did

>The defense
strategy depends on investing every dollar where
it will have the greatest effect, which the Budget
will accomplish through critical reforms that divest
unneeded force structure, slow growth in
compensation, and reduce wasteful overhead. To
direct investments toward a ready, technologically
superior force, the military must shed unnecessary
force structure now that ground combat
missions in Iraq and Afghanistan have ended.
Venerable weapons systems, such as the A-10
aircraft, have performed decades of service, yet
would now face survivability challenges against
a technologically advanced adversary. Therefore,
the Budget reproposes the retirement of this and
other systems, and directs the money saved toward
investment in the most capable, versatile,
and survivable systems to perform their missions.
The Budget also reduces overhead and waste by
continuing the initiative to reduce DOD’s major
headquarters’ operating budgets by 20 percent,
pursuing acquisition reform through the Better
Buying Power initiative, and proposing another
round of Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC)
to free resources currently consumed by maintaining
unneeded facilities. The need to reduce
unneeded facilities is so critical that, in the absence
of authorization of a new round of BRAC,
the Administration will pursue alternative
options to reduce this wasteful spending.

It's not meant to stand on its own. It was meant to enhance the ability of the other planes it would accompany by being a jack-of-all-trades. Its place is to carry different payloads based on the plane it is supporting. It could be a dog-fighter or long-range ordinance defense. The trials highlighted in the piece most people site show that the F-35 couldn't outdo any other plane in what that plane was designed to do well.

I always see this kind of defense, like the liberal center right party in Sweden. "We have to join NATO before it's too late".
US won't fight a war against an enemy where a highly advanced stealth plane would have to be using its stealth tech, for at least a decade.

The human built tech will evolve like crazy during the 2020s, so who knows what kind of anti-stealth tech or other things we will come up with. 'Murica will be developing a 6th gen aircraft as soon as the weapon companies wants more money.

Technically, 6th gen concepts are already being looked at, but there is a long road to production ahead. The F-35 means that the US won't actually need to adopt a new jet fighter until 2040, and even then the F-35 will still be in serivce for a while after that.

By ~2025, the first commercial quantum computer would hit the market. Etc etc.

Well.. My point being, our technology is moving very, very fast.

Name the projects that cost the most, and had the highest number of people working on them, and then its combat record.

Compare.

Projects that cost a FORTUNE! and have every single able body man woman and child tied to it. Are SUPER popular, by companies, by people, by governments.

its a multi-role plane but it does not excel being a fighter or a bomber. its probably an on-the-fly thing where theres instances that you need more bombers than fighters or vice versa and you dont have the time for production

Your money better spend on helping the "Syrian" refugees!
>>poo in loo india is building a fifth gen fighter
No they don't.They just signed contract with us for 172 su-50.Also South Korean is 4++ not 5th!

Good thing the VTOL variation is only going on Marine LHDs, which currently operate Harriers. The Air Force is getting the F35A and the Navy is getting the F35C.
>>
>>59989001
It's VTOL cant take off in high seas, can attempt dynamic VTOL in bad weather, airframe makes it shit at CAS (systems try to alleviate this)

i dont know why but it's sexy as hell

A 6th gen YF-25 replacing the F-15 when the time comes would be pretty baller.

>>59989217

>Look it up.

Nah, I'm not a fan of wild goose chases.

>>59989459

The Harrier and Harrier II already proved that STOVL is a valuable tool to have. The F-35B is just the next step in evolution.

>russia 5th gen fighter is almost done but still development stages

It is questionable to call the PAK-FA 5th gen, it is a Flanker with a lowered RCS.

>japan 5th gen fighter looks promising

The Shinshin is a tech demonstrator, Japan is buying F-35s.

>south korea is building one with indonesia

South Korea lacks certain technologies that the US is not sharing, and is buying F-35s.

>china's fighter is almost done

The J-20 does seem promising, as long as China actually produces good engines.

>poo in loo india is building a fifth gen fighter

No they aren't.

>we europeans have to buy this shit

You should be happy you are buying the best of the lot.

horses for courses but if you think the F35 is going to provide force projection against anything but shit tier countries then it'll be a rude awakening.
An F22 upgrade would have been better, even if it would have been less jobs for the defence industry.
And for you allies, we got shafted and we fucking know it.

That is not saying much for the aircraft the F-35 is replacing, as they are inferior in all relevant measures to what you are asking.

Chair Force fag reports as ordered

The place us gated because it's a big fat fucktard. It's like the navy marines and af all wanted different things and the dod took a standard airframe and adapted it to ea ch branch. And it's a homer car for each branch. Instead of being several thousand of these little cheap stealth backups to a few thousand f-22's we get a fat nignog plane and the pilot can't see behind him because it's fat. Not cheap, not gonna get that many. Also stealth coating sucks, it ruins airplane fixers lives all the time. 12 hour shifts at home station for 6 months? For a fucking fast toy. It and it's choking big brother f22 were designed for the Cold War. It's been 30 years since these were needed. We kill our enemies by outspending them and bankrupting them. With cool looking shit. FUCK BREAKFAST!

Ask Americans why you cannot buy a F-22 modified for ground strike. I would demand F-22 as replacement for the bloated F-35 contracts.

F-35 is just a freestyle with some shit plastered on it.

the production line was broken down years ago (mothballed) and it's all in some old shipping containers in the Sierra Army Depot and the electronics haven't been updated in design since the 80s.. what more do you need to know.
There was an F22A which did some upgrades but it wasn't a proper version upgrade
