The big issue jus that clearance height is measured once for most overpasses. Over the years, conditions change that make the official brought inaccurate. Also, computers tend to look for the shortest route, which might be longer on account of realistic speed limitations. Mountain passes are a good example of that.
All said, if you really want to argue trucking being computerized, that's fine, but it will come at the same pace as personal vehicles doing the same.

When the BMW failed its MOT (road worthiness test, kinda like smog in California, but more in depth and applies to more than just emissions) I tried to get the Saab on the same insurance, so I could drive the Saab while fixing up the BMW.
Both on the same policy would have been a £90 payment up front, plus spiking my payment from £62 to £126 a month. So I went with just the Saab at £92 a month and sold the BMW.
I kind of miss it but i needed a shit tone of work.

Here in the UK we have yearly MOTs.
They check your wipers, emissions, frame rust, tyre tread, brakes, ABS (if you have it), headlight alignment and some other stuff I forget, and if they aren't within a certain "safe" area your MOT is refused until it's fixed.

This is also correct, a refurbished tranny would have ran me about £6000 plus £2000 fitting. That's not a new gearbox, but another old one ripped out a junker.
