1. Only Ashkenazi Jews intermarried with local women, and there weren't any issues with this. When single men move in an area, they settle down with locals. That happens everywhere.
2. Europeans had no interests in having Jews in their society at large. Jews lived in their own insular communities and it was better that way. They don't proselytize (not that they would, Judaism doesn't proselytize).
3. Jews are an ethnorelgious group, that's been well established for thousands of years. Not sure what point the authors trying to make. This whole idea of "racism! Discrimination against my faith!" And flip flopping between the two didn't happen.
4. Jews were encouraged to practice usury by the royalty; that's how they came into the practice (in Europe) at all. If the king couldn't lay debnts the Jews *usually* got expulsed. If the run of the mill gentile couldn't, they pogrom'd them.
