Interestingly, as an extension of free will not existing and being an illusory experience, consciousness is a similar phenomenon. I'm working on an argument that consciousness does not exist per se. It's much more complex than free will and I'm not entirely convinced yet but it's an engaging problem. It's essentially an argument that we ARE philosophical zombies but what we expect a philosophical zombie to be can't exist and we just misinterpret our experience as a wholly bounded one when it is really a conglomeration of all informational experience which results in an emergent "consciousness".
