I just started dating a Chinese girl from my university and my Uncle called me a race traitor during our Thanksgiving meal, right in front of her. It was kind of hard not to laugh, because he's really, really old (Vietnam war vet). I understand that he probably has a lot of emotional baggage still lingering just beneath the surface because his ilk never received the PTSD clinical therapy all of the pussies in IRAQ and AFGHANISTAN got when they came home. My Uncle was from a much harder generation and he was just expected to suck it up. I'm sure seeing an Asian sitting across from him at Thanksgiving must have triggered some unsettling memories. My girlfriend was very upset by my Uncle's behavior, but I was able to calm her down once I explained the her that he was a senile old war vet and that her eyes probably cause a war flashback.
