Gonna say that reform is possible. Sunnis, Shi'a, and Kharijites all have their own traditions of continued scholarship and modification through Islamic jurisprudence. I honestly believe that if Tunisia gets its democratic project up and running, they have a real shot at being the voice for political and religious reform in other ME countries. Either through a secularization of the state apparatus, or the development of a different, less dogmatic Islamist politics.
