What on earth is going on in the US with liberals, sexuality, and the LGBT thing?
I recently returned to the US after working in eastern Europe (mostly in Ukraine and Georgia) and have had quite a few interesting conversations with my family and friends about liberalism in general in the US.
Conversation 1:

For example, one year [2010-ish] when I was in Tbilisi, Georgia a few hundred people tried to hold a gay pride parade, which was ruined when a few hundred Orthodox priests and grandmas interrupted it and started beating people with a kind of tree branch which causes burns and stings on flesh."
Conversation 2:

>me "You never, ever hear about it. I only know of one Georgian man who became a woman and that is only because of youtube. Sexuality in general is very taboo in eastern Europe, but prostitution exists as a gray area."

>me "Well, it's simply not allowed in their culture. You'd probably be beaten to death if you were a male-to-female transsexual in these countries. Russia has declared gender identity disorder to be a severe mental disorder and doesn't even allow these people to drive and they forbid all types of media which promote homosexual and transgender lifestyles."

Yes, I have, but only because I've spent time in eastern Europe where family still serves a purpose. OK, so people might bash the eastern Europeans for being poor, but that just might be why family is so important to them while Americans have let family go as the most recent generations are getting poorer and poorer.

Pretty much this. One of the best things about living in Orthodox Christian countries was that sexuality was not on display at every corner or on every screen.
