Does the modern man have absolutely nothing to live for besides lowly material gain of cheap consumer products?

what do you think the 50's were about? their bullshit materialism and superficialism begat the counter culture of the 60s and 70's, which spun out of control and into darkness, heralding in a return to conservative values and, guess what, a new materialistic golden age of the 90's.
