We should build a giant Solar panel and place it in Orbit around the planet and have it constantly follow the sun, to maintain a constant supply of energy.
This would cost Billions of dollars, but over all I think would be a very good investment. We are getting to that age in humanity where we need to start exploring the next age of energy, and I think something of this magnitude would be a good start.
Any Engineerfags here got any idea how big it would have to be, how long it would take to build, and how we could use the energy it produces, here on earth.

you'd have to have basically,"ZONES" dedicated to just that,and the people that worked there would have mad hazard pay and all that jazz
your biggest problem is our existing infrastructure too, it's pretty weak
so...even if you get a mad amount of juice
the problem is the length of the wire and how far you have to get it to hit "society"
so then to solve this lets say you make micro zones to receive the beams near population areas, i'd suggest landfill type zones that have no chemical hazards
but then you could feasible maybe pursue this with the right amount of investment
problems of comets or asteroids colliding with your "panel" although the ones that go up currently are more like a "sheet" think a thin metal blanket, but they do get thicker,all depends on the use
so it would be doable all of it,but the pricing is insane
and the dangers are crazy, i'd personally be all for it,because then you can probably piggyback better internet on this system and a few other things
the only huge problem i personally see, the implications it would have on our atmosphere and ozone our magnetic fields, what would you do if a say hurricane or earthquake or some other natural disaster falls inside of the area of the beams, and then you also have the problem of coordinating schedules of when you can power it on and cant and you can't miss windows oh god the math

You must be one really shit operator to not know that to date we haven't been able to produce a fusion reactor with net energy output as well as the fuel needed to run one are difficult to obtain Hydrogen isotopes.
Couple that with huge investment costs and radioactive emission you won't see a fusion reactor any time soon whatsoever.
