He wouldn't have made it impossible for me to interact with other people. I don't drink. I never have. I haven't even had one beer in my whole life and I'll be turning 27 next week. This doesn't mean I'm an obnoxious preachy faggot about it. I remember once I was talking about it here on 4chan and some obnoxious fuck came out and was like "omg how could you not know the happiness of this that's so horrible blah blah blah..." and to me OP is just as fucking annoying as that guy was to me.
Some people are alright with alcohol. Like my mother for instance. She'll have a corona with a lime every now and then, it's no big deal. But then there are people like my father and my uncles that drink non fucking stop. My father is not allowed to drive for the rest of his life, he drove drunk many times and spent time in jail for it. He was a hardcore alcoholic and was abusive to me when I was a kid when he was drunk.
Then there are my uncles, who would be constantly drunk and completely fucking useless. The moment that made me choose to abstain from it forever was when I saw my uncle in the fetal position in the corner of the room crying uncontrollably after getting shitfaced.
I suffered through a lot in my life. I came out of a really nasty bout of depression. I don't know if I could have done that if alcohol was a part of my life. I probably would have turned to it to self medicate. I can't see it helping me or making me a happier person in anyway.
