Genuinely curious here:

Why do so many self-proclaimed atheists tend to also be rabid progressives and socialists?

I find it odd that a lot of these people come off as rational 'free thinkers' on the one hand; whilst on the other they adhere 'religiously' a political doctrine that is tantamount to Christian dogma, with all it's superstitions and denial of reality -- only it lacks the deity.

Are these people genuine atheists? Or do they just adopt this stance because it helps justify their hatred of Christianity (along with other dominant groups, such as Whites, Men, Heterosexuals etc)? This phenomenon also seems more common amongst women.

What is Auschwitz supposed to represent? Their Holy Site? What?

It should be Tumblr.

I didn't make the picture. It was the closest thing I had relevant to my question.

Catholics have Priests, not preachers. And the key point of being a Priest is conducting the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the most holy of sacrememts to Catholics, not "talkin' 'bout how swell that Jesus fellow is."

Human kind as a whole has a need for spirituality, a belief to follow. Whether be it a full fledged religion with rituals, a 'right' way to live, a moral buildup or an ideology - they all can serve to fulfill that need.

The problem with that is, that the more rational and logically explained a belief is the less it does to fulfill that need. So many of the believers will deny facts related to their belief, whether they support it or not, based on how rational and relating to the principle of their faith they are. The second makes them likely to embrace these facts, the first goes against that.

Tl;dr People need religion, ideology can become a religion.

It's supposed to represent a pilgrimage zone.

Yes, it's an holy site and holy Anne Frank is a saint.

The holocaust is a miracle, unexplained and unexplainable.

holokauston = "a completely (holos) burnt (kaustos) sacrificial offering", or "a burnt sacrifice offered to a god"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocaust_%28sacrifice%29

People goes to auschwitz pilgrimage to honor they faith in the holocaust miracle.

Thanks for being the only one to answer my question, whilst everyone else just wanted to critique the image. I guess they'd rather respond to all the bait threads; and BBC shills that have been fucking up this board of late.

I don't think that they are radical free thinkers at all. I think atheists largely swallow what they learn in school the hardest and do not search for anything outside of that context.

Because higher and even to some extent public education has a bias towards socialism and progressivism (is that a word?) they adopt a persona of being "logical". Meaning that their entire worldview was shaped by their experience in education.

Put under house arrest for preaching his scientific discoveries without review from ANY SCHOLAR or any school at the time. He was the equivalent of screaming "VACCINES CAUSE AUTISM" at the top of your lungs around towns until arrested for disturbing the peace.

Except in his case, his data was accurate. But he still punished for incorrect procedures regarding scientific discoveries at the time.

Church scholars eventually let him go after going through the proper procedures and finding out he was indeed correct.

And he died still catholic.

Pilgrimage site should be San Francisco, NYC, or Sweden/"Europe" the way they always refer to the most liberal parts of Europe as if it represents the whole of Europe

Adding onto that point when you look at Anarchism back when it was a major movement, or Communism or Socialism the parallels to religiousity become explicit. They literally have their own millenialism with the notion of the worker's or proletariat's revolution, sacred books and tenets (For awhile participating within the structure of government was seen as heretical until finally you had de-fanged communists in the Socialists seeking to work within the system).

I will be shocked if environmentalism doesn't take on more of the qualities of religiousity you see with political correctness. It's already happened with invoking the sin of climate change every time there is a natural disaster ("It is god's punishment that we had an earthquake/a plague"), a de-facto but unformal clergy (NGOs and activists), I'm not really sure we can call Gore the Marx/Prophet because he's largely disappeared from the narrative and likewise An Inconvenient Truth is not toted about so much as to qualify as the environmentalist quran, apocalyptic/millenialism notions of what is to come, ect.

One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of reactionaries have good reason to keep quiet about their atheism.

>christians are conservative, I must be liberal
>christians are pro-life, I must be pro-choice
>christians are anti-immigration, I must be pro-immigration
>christians are pro-gun, I must be anti-gun
>christians are anti-LGBT, I must be pro-LGBT
>christians are anti-weed, I must be pro-weed.

You can start wherever.
Identify as "atheist",support the contrary of the average "christian".
Identify as "liberal", support the contrary of the average "conservative"
where "average" is actually "vocal minority"
etc etc.
And the other way around the same:
Identify as "conservative", support the contrary of the average "liberal".
Identify as "christian", support the contrary of the average "atheist".
>>
>>57246521
Trust me anon, there's no shortage of extremely liberal pro-immigration, anti-gun, pro-LGBT, pro-weed "Christians" in the world
>>
>>57244663
Uhm...
on the left side... Change "heresy" with "excommunication" / "interdict"..
You're welcome.
>>
>>57246601
Who are about as "christian" as "moderate muslims" are "muslim"
>>
>>57246521
So much this.

One side is the mirror of the other, not implying that there's not a right side, but the prejudice against one set of beliefs can numb the mind against certain right thing about those beliefs. Like, I'm atheist and conservative, but I see that a lot of atheist run from conservative values only because they are crhistian values, even though they are right
>>
>>57244663
>Are these people genuine atheists?
yes of course

atheism always belonged and will continue to belong to the political left and not the right

that's why they mysteriously fall into the sjw trap. It's not mysterious they are of the same kind
>>
>>57244663
You've answered it for yourself. It's not born out of free thinking, it's born out of hatred for the group they hate for other reasons. The friend of my enemy is my enemy.

Most "true" atheists refuse the idea of god and don't really care about the church, at most use it for their arguments.

Most "liberal" atheists like the idea of a god and are spiritual but hate the church over muh women, muh abortions, muh white men, muh gays etc.
