Why one of the most advanced nation in the world isn't capable to see how utterly stupid, confusing and useless the am/pm system is ? Why can't you just count to 24 like everyone ?
>>
What's confusing about it?
>>
>>56820779
You always have to remember to put AM or PM.
>>
>>56820860

The only time you really need to do that is for a deadline. Other than that, it's pretty difficult to confuse times that are 12 hours apart. No one accidentally shows up for a hair appointment at 3:00 AM.
>>
>>56821102
Hi, let's have a meeting at 8 o'clock ! ... AM. No wait, PM. Wait.
>>
>>56821253

I don't know what's confusing for you. AM is before noon, PM is after noon. doesn't french has both of these ways to measure time? polish has and we use them interchangably
>>
>>56821253
>Let's have a meeting at 8
>Ok, that's early but I'll be in the office by then, since nobody works their job at 8:00 PM :^)
>>

>since nobody works their job at 8:00 PM
in what world are you living in ?
>>
>>56822259
How this conversation would go if you used the 1st world system:
>Let's have a meeting at 8
>Ok
>>
>>56822518

what world do you live in? you wouldn't have meetings in that kind of job
>>

Admit it would have been hilarious if the first man on the moon was instead sent to the Sun because of AM/PM confusion.
>>
The AM/PM system causes none of the confusion you're assuming about it and you would find it just as natural had you been born over here.

>>
>>56822518
certainly not happening in France you lazy motherfuckers. Now wonder your country is shit with your stupid 32h week and 6 months vacation.

I also think 12h system sucks in formal or business context. There even is this one crappy program I know, where you have to type the date and then write AM or PM behind it, which is stupid beyond believe. Of course there is nothing wrong if you use a 12h system in your spoke language. In German for example you'd often say:
* let's meet at 5 in the afternoon
instead of:
* let's meet at seventeen o'clock (which is still valid, but less common in my particular dialect)
>>
>>56823081
What's illogical about dividing time into two periods?
>>
Is midnight 12AM or 12 PM?
>>
>>56823203
12 PM is noon, now go back to your Guinness
>>
>>56823180
Because there is absolutly no reason to do it ? It's already divided in 24 periods, it's called hours.
>>
>>56820680
It's confusing for you because you haven't grown up on it. Your 24 hour standard confuses me and pisses me the fuck off. That's on what we were raised so we can't change that.
>>
>>56822518
>lets meet at 8 in the morning
>sounds great
Are you fucks really that anti social? There's nothing to misunderstand.
>>
Americans are "special" so they need to use a fucked up time and date along with some ancient nigger tier measuring system.

Its kinda ironic since america invented globalization and yet they cant even succeed at it themselves.
>>
>imperial system
>AM/PM
>fahrenheit degrees
>MM/DD/YYYY

Why?
>>
>>56823299

the reason to do it is that it's easier to make a 12h mechanical clock than a 24h, you kek
>>
>>56822850
They wouldn't get confused because it's am or pm
>>
>>56823203
I'm not sure if there is a consistent solution to this. I think the most common interpretation is that midnight is 0:00 AM and noon is 12:00 PM. But I have seen different usages even from people native to the 12h system. To be fair, especially americans are very easy on such rules, probably because the country has a multilingual background and is used to people having fucked up language.
>>
>>56823453
If you ever had a real job you would know it's perfectly possible to have meeting at 8 or 20 either way.

>>
AM/PM is so retarded that even their own military uses 24 hour format.
>>
>>56823492
>hating on mm/dd
If you look at the first number of mm/dd system you have a rough idea of the time of year something happened which is useful when you're looking at the past.
You don't get that with dd/mm and you can always just look the second number if you forget what today is.
>>
>>56820860
Thats not confusing unless you're retarded.
>>
>>56820680
Because with our way, we can have circular wall clocks that count to twelve. We still understand military time, and I can set my phone to that if I want.

Really, if you want to bash something americans do, the fact that we don't use the metric system is much more apt.

I MEAN COME ON GUYS

IT'S 2015 (AD)
>>
>>56824641

When you look at something in the past you have to look up year most of the time, and it's easier when month and year are together, so even yyyy/mm/dd would be more logical.

When you look up what date is today or what is tomorrow, you know the month and year, so you really need only one number and the first is ideal considering that you need to know day most of the time.

And simply smallest->medium->biggest time interval makes pefect sense, mm/dd/yyyy is equivalent of 1m, 16mm and 55cm or whtever inches and feet you guys have there. I mean it's technically not wrong, but why would you do that?

AD and the other thing are stupid as well. We should rather use the some form of galactic time e.g. big bang or something. Then shorten it up for convenience.

Also how was that again with 13 months at 28 days each and the last one has 29 days or something.
>>

Personally, when using numbers to write the date i go DD/MM/YY, but never speak it that way. When spoken it is always November 25th.

I prefer the Julian Day Date Calendar but no one uses it in public.
>>
>>56822930
You know it's called Military time in the U.S. because only the military uses it, right? That makes sense, does it not?\

>>56822991
Too bad the Euro is outshined by the Pound because the British were actually smart and realized the Euro was a stupid idea. Plenty of countries have their own currency, you fucking moron. Plenty of countries use dollars as well.

>>
>>56824911
Damn, sorry man.
>>
>>56825571

we use 12 hr system only when talking, but it's normal to say "well I must be there at 17:40" or something, it really depends on situation

we don't use "am" or "pm", maybe "6 in the evening" for example when it's not sure what we mean
>>
> not using metric time

Refineries in the U.S. use 24 hour clock.

If you're retarded. Am is morning pm is night. The 24 hour system is better I guess, but its always been am/pm and nobody gets confused therefore we don't have a dire need to change. We also use both the metric system and imperial system.

There's more of a difference in months because of seasons than in years and days.
And if you focus on history no one writes in the slash format anyway.
YYYY format is annoying because there are four digits that would be better off at the end of the chain.

We don't say it like that though, we say "hey we got a meeting at 8 in the morning" or "8 at night" it doesn't complicate things at all having to say that.
>>

>There's more of a difference in months because of seasons than in years and days.
yeah, but it's not medieval times anymore, dates are now far more important than months

It's helpful to indicate whether something is before or after noon, which is what AM and PM mean.

French people don't wake up before noon anyway so it's unneeded in your country.

>>
>>56827190
We might not have to farm anymore but we still are concerned about things like the weather and summer vacation for school and holidays etc. I think what I'm trying to get at is you set your time basis psychologically on a year the mm format cuts out a specific frame of time whereas on the same time basis of a year the dd format could have happened at any time of the year. Now on the basis of a month dd wins for everyday use but it's not significantly harder in an mm/dd format. When I meant history I was thinking more of in the sense of looking at documents and not like reading a history book for class.
And as for smaller should go to bigger there are 12 possible numbers for months and 31 for days and even more for years so mm/dd/yy does go smaller to bigger but in more of a sense for math as opposed to time.
I don't really think mm/dd is really significantly greater (i take it back if i said or implied that than dd/mm or vice versa aside from /pol/ cultural dickwaving but mm/dd is perfectly usable.
Now metric is pretty retarded for science but all the science classes use metric anyway unless the teacher wants to be a dick.
