Seeing as it looks like the Sukhoi only crossed into Turkey for a matter of seconds, and that there's generally some leeway afforded because of the airspeed the planes tend to travel at, it would appear that Turkey was waiting to start some shit. What, you think the Russian pilot had time to comprehend 10 warnings sent to him in that span of time? Even if he broke off immediately and altered his flight path, the Turks would have fired before a 180 degree turn could be completed.
Also, the Turks changed their ROE to consider any plane entering Turkish airspace from the Syrian side to be a threat - that's why the slavplane got shot down. Turkey instituted this change, however, because of a previous incident in which a Turkish plane was shot down by Assad's forces following a similar scenario.
TL;DR - Turkic fuckups and overcompensations may have killed us all. Recommend that NATO sacrifice Turkey and allow clearer heads to prevail.
