They can't. Russian planes don't even have advanced radar to detect incoming missiles.
Su 27 is really on the same level as an F4 phantom if you compare technology and avionics. Sure they got thrust vectoring to do fancy maneuvers, but in modern air to air combat, this is irrelevant.

Su-24 is a 50 year old platform. The Su-24M in particular is a bomber with limited anti air capabilities.
It was attacked out of nowhere by a semi modern fighter jet from an ostensibly neutral country. Big surprise that it got splashed.

I find it hard to believe. Russian electronics are said to be quite good.
They imitate to the best of their knowledge.
Ever since they got their grabby hands on the F-14 in the Iranian revolution, every russian fighter jet ever developed since mig-29 and su-27 is variations of the f-14 design.
Even the new T-50 is a the F-14 design blended with f-22.
