This is why I am childfree. I am a married 6ft tall regitered nurse living in the suburbs of Omaha and I am married to a Speech therapist who works are the sane hospital. We are both white, educated, live in an anffluent white suburb etc. having kids is a waste of life and time. No disposable income, no peace and quiet, no lazy days, ruined marriage, no sex etc. I worked so hard to get to where I am. Why fuck everything up? I got sterilized in Cancun 4 years ago. After having our son I was ecstatic. He's the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. I love him. I love his laugh and his smile. I love teaching him things and knowing that he'll carry on my traditions into the future. He's like my best friend.
My wife on the other hand pretty much hates him because he imposes on her "me time". She doesn't say as much but she certainly acts like it. She hates spending time with him unless she gives him a phone to stare at. I would get a divorce but she'd probably take him out of spite and I couldn't do that to him.

However, theres been recent births in my family, and everyone who just had a child seems just as happy, if not more so. Of course, they did it proper. Found someone they loved, got married, had their own place and actual careers before starting a family.
I'd argue it depends on whether or not your child was an "accident."

Sometimes 'burdens' are the best thing in life. They give you purpose. I'm getting to that age where I've pretty much covered my base needs, and I couldn't imagine just coasting along at this pace until I die. It'd be meaningless.
I have strengths that would go to waste if I just used them for myself. I find joy in accepting the burdens of others and making my little sphere of influence just that much brighter. I am, after all, a man. This is our purpose.
