Because dogs and cats were domesticated for uses other than food. We as people have a bond with dogs and cats that we do not have with farm animals. Eating dog and cats is seen as barbaric because it is never needed. Why eat dog or cat when there is plenty of other societal accepted foods to eat? It is weird to eat carnivores anyway.

Human relationship and emotional bonds have had an effect on how do perceive humans. Hell there's a case where a starving street dog saved a small abandoned baby and delivered it to someone.
Our relationship with pigs only go so far as food.
Look into dog brain scans and behavior patterns, they're legit wired to pick up human emotions and behavior patterns at birth. That's the benefit of having them around us as partners for 35,000 years.
You can eat them, but it obviously elicits a bad emotional response from people as the general relationship from them is not like a pigs.
Pigs relationship with humans is more like a chickens or a cows.
