Generally speaking it's wrong to treat things lower/weaker than you badly and when people do that they're not liked by anyone else. I realize you're a muslim so you have no conception of the "golden rule" (do onto others what you would have them do to you) but in White countries we take it seriously. Typically here in the US being unnecessarily cruel to animals (ie torturing them) has always been criminal. Even on the frontier, people were expected to put animals down as humanely as possible (except pests, such as rodents or hogs.
