Can someone please explain why food is so fucking expensive nowadays? , found this old menu from a restaurant named "Sambo's". Look at those fucking prices ?! 3 dollars for a fucking N.Y. steak dinner.

This is something no one ever talks about.
Economies of scale.
Your average town back in the day had one or two diners. They served breakfast and lunch and maybe dinner depending.
EVERYONE ate there. They were fixed parts of the local social scene. Every single fucking person in town went and ate there.
Now, even small towns have 10 restaurants. 10 restaurants serving the same goddamn number of patrons that single old diner used to serve.
So of course shit gets more expensive. The old diner could keep costs down because they were making BANK purely on how goddamn many patrons they were serving, day in, day out, all year.
Instead of going to "the diner" 3 times a week, now you go to the local restaurants maybe once a month, because there's so much variety you never want to have the same shit twice.
Along with inflation, that's the real reason.

I went to a Dennys the other day. It was 2 dollars for a fucking soda, and 8 dollars for a breakfast I can make for less than a dollar if I bought bulk ingredients from a grocery store.
