Resources are only as good as the minds that utilize them.
Africa is a rich source of iron, gold, platinum, aluminum, copper, titanium, cement, and the list goes on. They currently produce more than 60 metal and mineral products.
Not to mention obvious abundant resources such as water, lumber, farmland, stone, and so on.
Africa could have been a great empire at any time; but its inhabitants were incapable of devising a more clever application for its abundant resources than pic related.
