I'm from the Rockville area. You really want the best advice? Move to Virginia or the Eastern panhandle of West Virginia. Things are much cheaper, it's the same climate, you can get a comparable length commute if you work in D.C. using the MARC train, and if you don't there are other jobs in the area. Seriously, I've got family there and while I love the climate, I find MoCo more and more to be less than pleasant. I've got other family that live/have lived in VA and WV and they live better for less with more freedom.
