I was a lifeguard at a lake and we had 4 black kids go into about 4 foot of water. They were all over 5 feet. They are all hooting and hollering and all of a sudden two of them start going apeshit and slapping the water. OSU grad here, this "lake" is just a small ornamental pond that is about 3 feet deep and moves gradually to about 5 feet deep at the other end. Probably 50 feet long and 20 feet wide. Most people just jump in and splash around for a minute then get out and stand around the edge socializing while they watch other people jump in. Temperature is usually between 20-50 F which affects how much swimming happens. The whole point of it is that it's retarded as fuck and it is seen as the peak of being a drunken crazy college student. The university had in recent years tried to make it "safer" by fencing it off, having EMS on standby, and restricting access to students that had pre-acquired wristbands, so the spirit of it was already dead. Now it's officially banned and they'll probably have an armed guard next year to make sure no one can have any fun.
