The white Australia policy didn't come into effect until after Federation 1901, and the Goldrush wasn't yet in full swing in 1850.
Also, the Goldrush brought tens of thousands of Chinese migrants, as well as others considered non-white at the time, such as Italians.
And in 1850 a lot of the colonies didn't even have representative government, they were still basically rules by appointed governors with dictatorial powers.

If you look you'll see most of what I said isn't 100% historically accurate, I'm just reflecting on the attitudes of Australians at the time. You should read a Short History of Australia by Manning Clark, it really gives some great insights and shouldn't be to hard for you m8. Mining boom was indeed building up by 1850 and of course there wasn't a White Aus Policy, Aus wasn't even a country you retard and Britain didn't judge by race. The point is we were 95% white at the time and remained so right up until 1980 with the sentiments of our people being that Aus should be for Europeans mainly.

Fun History Lesson:
Tejas was a desolate, mostly empty province of Mexico. It was unsettles Indian territory. Indians which raided American border settlements went into Mexico knowing the Americans would not pursue. Both Mexico and America saw this a problem. The Mexican government gave permission for a small group of American missionaries to settle a part of Tejas as the land was not being put to use anyways and to quell the Indian raids. Soon, more and more Americans began to arrive, partly encouraged by new land opportunities and partly by the American government of the time which saw it as a way to settle and colonize that land, plus put an end to the Indian raids. The numbers of settlers grew out of control for the Mexican government to handle, outnumbering Mexicans. They wanted to put a stop to it but could not figure out how. Tejas, now majority American declares independence and establishes itself as an independent Republic, which the Mexican government can do little about and which angers the American government, which thought it would incorporate itself into the Union. America then launches a war against Tejas, now names and pronounced Texas because Americans did not understand the Mexicans pronounced the X as a J in some words. Texan Mexicans and Texan Americans both battle Union forces with the backing of Mexico. They eventually lose and are annexed by America, becoming a state in the Union. This leads right into the Mexican-American war, which saw Mexico defeated, temporarily colonized and surrendering all of the northern provinces.
