However nation like France or mine have had decades of hundreds of thousands if non Europeans and others European flooding in legally; if they settle down get jobs, kids and pay taxes THEN the government will allow them to replace us. Well back in the 70's we had a referendum to join the EU, except back then it was a trading bloc. 4 decades and lots of other treaties later we have the EU as it is today. It's worth noting that after the initial referendum few countries allowed it's citizens to have a vote on the following treaties. The ones that did returned a no vote, so the EU made them run it again until a yes vote was returned.
Right now the EU want's an ever greater union of Europe, which might be all well and good, but it also seems intent on refusing to establish a common European identity (if that's even possible) and seems to want to just expand and become bigger for very little gain.

You could argue that over time people are trending towards a more homogeneous culture and ethnic mix.
I mean in the sense that tribes, became states, kingdoms and Empires. Fewer languages and cultures probably cover the surface of the globe now than ever. So in a way I think given hundreds, perhaps thousands of years everyone on earth would eventually naturally become linguistically and culturally very similar. Even if the way that happens is through some sort of conquest or colonialism.
But to try and force that to happen, rapidly and artificially is absolute insanity. Not to mention we risk collapsing our most productive and stable nation states through an influx of poorly behaved, educated and arguably cognitively inferior people.
This is a failed attempt at some Marxists view of Utopia. A lot of people are ultimately going to die over this mistake, and it was entirely preventable.
At very few ventures in history can you find successful examples of multiculturalism.
Vietnam and Korea are pretty much the only conflicts I can think of without tensions between two cultures being their cause.
