Should mention that a lot of the effort for Pan arabism was because of Gamal Adbel Nassar, the second President of Egypt. Should read up on him OP. If Nassar had got his way the Middle East would be one large socialist, secular, nationalist country. A lot of the avocation for a pan arab state died with him.
The idea of secular Arab states died with Anwar Sadat, the third Egyptian President, who was assassinated by Islamic fundamentalists because he signed a peace treaty with Israel.
