I am from a strong line of Presbyterian Ulster Scots on the maternal side of my family. Most men served in the RUC, Masonic Lodge and Orange Order, the most recent being my Grandfather.
He himself was also a B-special. 2 attempts were made by the IRA to kill him and they failed both times, instead they decided to kill his colleague and best friend. The assailant who was found not guilty then went on to hold office for Sinn Fein.
My Father, who is English, was stationed in RAF Aldergrove, Antrim. He has 2 confirmed kills on Republican Paramilitaries, whilst defending a checkpoint near to Belfast Royal Victoria Hospital.
So it has been inherently bred into me to despise Catholics. But I do not.
The Republic of Ireland brings with it problems in the form of debt and economic instability as opposed to its industry etc. So I am as of yet undecided on what future I want.
I just wish people on both sides would bury the religious hatchet. In my opinion the Republic of Ireland under a Westminster Government would be ruled more competently. They have no reason to fear loss of culture, which seems to be a main worry for them. It's not as if Scotland and Wales and Northern Ireland are indistinguishable from England.
Curious to see /pol/ opinion on a United Ireland or remaining as it is.

Whenever I play Crusader Kings 2 and start in Ireland I always have a hard time getting Ulster under my control, even when I have the rest of Ireland under my control and pay for mercenaries to help.
