Efficiency. Germany has a 4.5% unemployment rate. Without all the African/Arab migrants it would be even lower. Automation will only continue to drive down the need for labor, and far faster than any new jobs birthed out of the ether can be created.

No. My point is that at a certain level of intelligence people will become self-aware to a degree that it sabotages their will to live and reproduce, while dumber people lack this awareness and have no problem with spawning loads of offspring without a second thought. Intelligence above a certain threshold is therefore a trait that is ultimately selected against. This is why sophisticated peoples bring about their own demise and less intelligent ones flourish at least in a biological sense, even if they bring loads of suffering upon themselves. If anything, extinction is an inevitability that will take place one way or the other. I think the intelligent ones that see this coming and decide to prevent further suffering rather than wait for the shit to hit the fan are sensible. Many people cannot provide for a stable, reliable income anymore and choose to not have children instead.
Temporary employment is getting more and more common, with companies only guaranteeing certain years, or even only months of employment. You don't know whether or not your contract is getting extended towards the deadline, so the future of your job alone is often uncertain.
Wages are also stagnating, or even going down. (mostly through missing benefits) There's a proclaimed "Fachkräftemangel" (skill shortage), but in reality, many people just don't try anymore or refuse to sell themselves under value. Instead of increasing the supply for the demand, companies insist on their low-balling offers and start crying to the government that nobody wants to work for 12€/hr on lower benefits (e.g. unpaid overtime) when they made 20€/hr before, or giving job starters terrible offers, even with good degrees and internship experience - and employment with expiration dates, as mentioned above.
Also, not everyone on welfare programs is unemployed. Many of them are getting caught up in (sometimes forced) low-tier jobs, with wages so low (oh, and often also time constrained) that they are effectively subsidized by the government. (Aufstocker, or "Ein-Euro-Jobber"). There's also a lot of nonsense "training" programs with some simple bullshit as in how to operate a computer - and if they don't attend these, the welfare gets cut. All of these things preventing you from getting up and preparing for a real job.
Taxes are also increasing, with pensions overall decreasing and our healthcare system has seen better times as well.
Kindergarten (+schools) are often underfunded, with parents having to set their children on waiting lists. Good luck finding someone to take care of your children when both parents have to work for suitable incomes.
Many people just don't bother with children anymore at this point.
