The footage I saw 14 years ago didn't take place on rooftops, and there certainly weren't thousands like Trump says, but I distinctly remember footage of Americans celebrating 9/11 since it was such a hot issue for a couple days. It was a looped video in what looked like a suburban street. People were PISSED about it.

Nobody had digital camera in 2001, it was still just film. That was the problem with cameras was you had to have film, and most of time you'd only buy film for special occasions, like birthdays and holidays. The rest of the year, the camera sat in a drawer collecting dust.
Disposable cameras were really popular -- you'd buy them for under ten bucks and you could shoot from 24 to 30 pics, then you'd drop it off at a pharmacy or kodak kiosk and they'd print your photos overnight.

I remember my friends calling me to say goodbye, because we thought it was going to be like WWII. My friends were Army and they knew they would be heading out soon. Clearly remember that day and watching every bit of what was happening. Had a family friend working in one of the towers but luckily he got out, not that I knew that at the time. I was completely glued to the coverage.
What trump was saying DID NOT GET BROADCAST.
I'm sure it happened somewhere, but I'm also sure it never made it on tv. If it had there would have been a record or SOMETHING more than people's vague memories of such a thing.
What you also have to remember is that this was WAY before social media made everything that happened instantly known. Before phones with cameras that could instantly send HD video to someone esle who could put it on the air that day.
This would have had to have been caught by a news camera crew and pushed on to the air during a time where people had a LOT more to worry about then some asshole shitskins in jersey city.
Tldr: it probably happened, but no one can prove it, so he should drop it instead of trying to defend the indefensible.
