I went into stem because I was good at it and had high school teachers who taught me CS/math. They were fine people but realistically how many STEM grads do you think only went in because they were motivated by the thought of making games as a kid. I would never do that for a living now since I know vidya companies are horrible oppressive places to work at. But I wouldn't of even considered learning anything engineering/programming related if not for the desire to make my own game when I was 13. Before that I was obsessed with nature, insects, plants that kind of shit and I probably would have gone into forestry or something if I never had a console or computer.
