America's had a spotty record at best with how we integrate immigrants (Irish, Italian, Hispanic, Newly Freed Slaves, Asians) into the mainstream society. It takes a generation or two of gangs or a decade of assimilation culture before they get properly settled in.
Also, Europe basically just opened up floodgates instead of actually looking for places for these people to go, to work, setting down ground rules on them and being willing to enforce the general laws.
It hardly has anything to do with religion at this point.
