My aunt actually studied Arabic in uni (she works at DFAT), and she was called to Germany to to apparently speak with refugees, because Levantine Arabic is a lot different to North African Arabic, so obviously the government is trying to make some sort of effort to try and weed out the legitimate Syrians

Actual Syrians (even the Muslim ones) are the most civilised, educated, and responsible Arabs, and they would legitimately make good refugees, and they legitimately need refuge. I don't get why so many Americans are getting pissed of at the prospect of Syrian refugees coming and settling in the US, Obama specifically said "Syrian refugees" not any refugees, and we all know the American system would be a lot more meticulous than the European system. Any refugees that make it to America, are almost 99% good Syrian people. Canada even said that only women, children, and men with their families can get in, no single adult males
I honestly don't see the problem, ISIS wants to portray the refugees as terrorists, they even showed pictures of them carrying dinghy boats for refugees to specifically use to get to the West, and the Paris attacker, conveniently left his Syrian passport at the scene (which may have actually been stolen from a Syrian soldier that died years ago)

Shows he's educated. A lot of university subjects have English components simply because the knowledge base of the subject matter is largely English like Chemistry. It's better to learn English to gain access to that information rather than have that information translated to your language.
