My parents bought their house for the equivalent of $40.000 and my father earned the equivalent of $2.500 a month at the time. He was a carpenter. This would be enough money to support a family of 8.
Now their house is worth €350.000 and they retired. A construction worker / carpenter earns about €2.000 a month in the current economy. I am studying in university and can't move out without putting myself in debt because available rent is €600/mo and up or €400/mo after a 5 year waiting list for service homes. My parents cannot support me and I get 0 aid from the government.

28 year old homeowner here.
I have 1800 square feet of useless. I see my entire basement once per week - when I go down to do laundry. I use a bedroom to sleep and fuck my girlfriend (when she comes over - not cohab), a bathroom, the kitchen and computer room.
I have a living room I enter once per month to swiffer the floor. I have a dining room I never use because I eat in the kitchen. I have two spare bedrooms I clean if I have a house guest - maybe once per six months.
There is absolutely no reason to live outside of your parents home until you are thinking of moving in with someone. I pay $750 or so in interest every month, plus another $600 on the home (insurance + tax + utilities).
Living with family, I saved around 120k before I did move out, so I'm in good shape financially. But every month I live on my own, with no benefit to happiness (satisfaction is weighed against time to upkeep property), I am about $1300 behind where I would have been.
Currently saving up over $1500 a month while living at home. Within a year I should have more than enough to put a nice down payment on a nice property that comes along. I'm only home about 3 days a week and have good relations with the parents. I pay a fair share of the monthly spending in the house and take care of things. I have no intentions to sell myself to the vaginal jew due to my state being a mommy state.
