Like I can afford to buy that.
>>
BTW this was the cheapest plan listed for me on the healthcare website. I can't get subsidies my income is too low for it.
>>
Oh any here's another thing I don't get about all this. Why is there even a such thing as "open enrollment" why can't most people just come in at any time? Too much money coming and going of money between the different companies?
>>
>>56530205
What the fuck is the point of insurance if you have a 7k deductible?
>>
>>56530205
That insurance makes absolutely no sense. It would be cheaper to get all-inclusive travel insurance at about $90/months and pay a $50 per case deductible including all medication.
>>
>>56531478
There isn't, at least from what I understand.
>>56531812
Well I'm not going to buy it. The like one or two times a year I even see a regular doc (who doesn't even like the aca) right now just lets me pay for the visit out of pocket without having to have insurance. For vision I just go to places like "America's Best" or LensCrafters the only downside is Dental where I really haven't been to a dentist in a couplish years because the moment I told my dentist I didn't have insurance they stopped calling me to do checkup scheduling basically acting like I didn't exist. Teeth are usually fine but one day I do need figure out about getting a simple checkup for that. Dunno about affording it though.
>>
>>56531478
There fucking isn't. Except to subsidize poor people who get it for freeeeeeeee
>>
>>56530205

can someone explain to me what a deductible is

here in the first world we have nationalized healthcare
>>
>>56530205
That's a "oh shit i got cancer and I don't want to go bankrupt" plan. It's not intended for normal doctor's visits and prescriptions.

Talk to a healthcare navigator to find an actual health care plan that's right for you.

https://localhelp.healthcare.gov/
>>
>>56532588
But I'm not getting it free? Wouldn't I kind of be poor if I don't even qualify for the minimum income to get subsidized?
>>
>>56530264
>living in a Republican state

KEK
>>
>>56531381
>Why is there even a such thing as "open enrollment" why can't most people just come in at any time?

It's to prevent retards from dropping health insurance until they get sick. If you can't discriminate against people that have pre-existing conditions, that needs to happen.
>>
>>56530205
This plan used to be like $90 a month before Obamacare
>>
>have to pay monthly
>AND have to pay when I need to use a service
What is this insurance sham?
>>
>>56532884
But then why wouldn't it list that sort of plan. This is the cheapest one it gave me. These are the ones you are supposed to get a subsidy on and I don't even get one.
>>
>>56532849
...and shit care, no dentists, month long waits, and higher "petrol" taxes.
>>
>>56532849
It's what you have to pay for the insurer to agree to pay the rest, in addition to your monthly premium/subscription fee.
>>
>>56532960
Ah ok figured it was something like this.
>>
>>56532895
That's because your state was retarded and didn't expand medicaid.

Also, how they fuck are you too poor?

You'll have to be earning less than 11k a year to not get subsidies.
>>
>>56533005

All insurance is a sham. Every bit of it.

Don't think "Oh, I have insurance, they will pay for x."

"x" is almost always excluded.
>>
>>56533005
If you don't like it, vote for Bernie Sanders. He'll make single payer real.
>>
>>56533068
Well things like car and house insurance make a bit of sense because that's a tangible item ? My USAA car insurance is only like around 50 a month.

>>
>>56533005
If insurance paid for it all, people would have no incentive to look at prices and would go to the most expensive doctors, regardless if the price is justifiable.
>>
>>56530205
That's about what I pay for MSP here.

>>
Why is america so fucking retarded, can't you dumbasses stop being third world healthcare wise?
>>
>>56533154

Wait until you try to make a claim.

The worst I've ever seen was an insurance company offering a poor widow $20,000 for a $100,000 life insurance policy. They told her to take the $20k or they'd tie up her case for three years. She couldn't afford to sue them, so she took the $20k.

They're machines, not people.
>>
>>56533015
Nigger I spent a month in a semi-private room after I got in a bike accident high as fuck on morphine and getting fed three meals a day, I payed $39.00 dollars out of pocket at the end of it all because I used the TV.

A full cleaning at the dentist costs like, $150 without insurance, and everywhere you work will give you dental. Even Starbucks gives dental.

Why are Americans so in denial? "Sure we're being buttfucked by our shit healthcare system, but fuck it lets defend this kikey system on the internet out of complete stubbornness.
>>
>>56530205
I make over 100k a year and this is exactly how mine looked too. It's cheaper for me to be uninsured kek.

Luckily I come from a family of doctors so I only really need dental insurance (which is an even bigger scam).
>>

they're all jew scams at this point since most of america is fat as fuck and they have to charge a lot to pay for their doctor visits.
>>
>>56533433
It's always cheaper to be uninsured, until something goes wrong. Next thing you know you're selling your house to pay your medical bills.
>>
>>56530205
Okay first of all, like the other /pol/hack said, you need to fill out an application detailing your income first. They will ask for your info of who you are, your income, if you're a felon etc. It's just like FAFSA if you've ever done it.

Then after that, you'll get a huge discount in the cost and the deductible of every plan.
>>
>>56530205

Just take the fucking penalty 173 a month to pay 6k deductible
>>
>>56533468
The plan he linked costs $173 a month but yields no benefit whatsoever until you spend 6900 on healthcare for the year. It basically only covers something like breaking your leg or a surgery.
>>
What are subsidies?
>>
>>56533255

>>
>>56533468
>>56533671
It depends on the writing on the policy. Some things like an MRI would start getting covered after your deductible, while other like drugs or a doctors visit would be fully covered at the start.
>>
>>56530205
Why not just get Obamacare?
>>
>>56533636
False.

This does not work in every state. For example, in mine, I do not MAKE ENOUGH to qualify. I make less than 12,000 a year right now, and you have to make at least 15,600 or something to even qualify for the lowest subsidy.

I have to go without. The plan I want is 270 a month.
>>
>>56531478
when you can't pay your bill the poor ol' health care industry is only out 7K, which by that point they have billed up to cover everything anyway. It is about them, not you faggot.

Yeah, Obama care makes it cheap and affordable. Right. A lot of the high deductible bronze plans do not include any kind of copay. They are catastrophic coverage only. I looked the plan he linked up, it covers up to 3 standard doctor visits a year after a $20 copay. It has no prescription coverage or lab/blood work until the deductible is met.

>>56533848
>>56533888
No kidding. I was looking at $300+ a month for a low/mid range plan with a copay and prescription/lab coverage. Office visit copay is useless without prescription/lab coverage because that's what costs all the money if you get really sick.

I got priced out of my current plan. Use to be $110 biweekly, now it's $160 biweekly.

Still don't know how emergencies are handled, because the nearest ambulance will not be driving me to my hospital network

>>56531478

There is, and you fucking idiots don't know how it benefits you because you haven't managed your own health insurance.

Every health insurance provider has something called by one of several names like "maximum allowable" or "allowed amount" for every type of procedure or visit for every medical provider in the health insurance company's network. This means that even if the doctor tries to charge you an absurd amount of money for something, your health insurance provider will only allow a certain amount to be billed to you. Even if you haven't reached your deductible and have to pay it all yourself, your health insurance puts a cap on the amount you have to pay for.

Some doctors and hospitals DO charge ridiculous amounts of money for things. As an anecdote, my mother once had a visit to a specialist which she was charged over $2000 for the visit. Even though she wasn't anywhere near her deductible, she only had to pay a bit more than $200 for it because that was the maximum allowable designated by her insurance provider.

If you don't have health insurance and you happen to go to some doctor or hospital that charges ridiculous amounts of money, you have two choices: Personally go to the doctor/hospital and attempt to negotiate a lower payment yourself or choose not to pay it at all and take the hit to your credit score, with the doctor/hospital likely refusing to do anything with you in the future other than stabilize you as required by law.

The second advantage of having health insurance with a $7k deductible is that, in the event of a major accident where you get severely hurt, you will ONLY have to pay $7k for treatment, which is better than paying all of it. Once you get over that initial financial hurdle, you can get all the procedures and treatment that you need to recover from the major injury as best as possible.

This is what mine looks like on $20,000 income, 26 year-old non-smoker.

I think this is plenty affordable for me, especially with the $0 deductible. There are other similar ones around this price range with a lower emergency room care cost but like $200 deductable.

Interestingly enough, I would have to pay that full fucking $268 or whatever if I was making less than like $17,000 a year. How the fuck is that "Affordable"? I even calculated it at $8000/yr and it was still full price, which would mean half of your monthly income is going towards just the premium.

One question though to those who have done this before, is that tax credit discount thing going to fuck me in the ass come tax season or something? This price seems too good to be true.

See
>>56534786
>Every health insurance provider has something called by one of several names like "maximum allowable" or "allowed amount" for every type of procedure or visit for every medical provider in the health insurance company's network. This means that even if the doctor tries to charge you an absurd amount of money for something, your health insurance provider will only allow a certain amount to be billed to you. Even if you haven't reached your deductible and have to pay it all yourself, your health insurance puts a cap on the amount you have to pay for.
The doctors don't get paid the difference by the insurance company, they have to write it off.
>>
>>56535810

This.

If you're young get the cheapest shit possible. If you're hardcore you can just overclaim your exemptions so you not enough is withheld from your checks. You will have to cut a check for taxes, but there's no mechanism for them to collect the ACA penalty from you other than taking your refund check.

If you do have a catastrophic event then you can just refuse to pay or go bankrupt. If you keep your savings in a 401k it can't be touched.

It's shit. It forces you to pay because you owe more taxes if you don't have it.

Then the deductibles are high as fuck. I'm 23. I haven't spent around 1,500 dollars on healthcare in 5 fucking years. I don't need a plan that will only kick pay after my bills are over 6,000 dollars!

I also don't want a plan that costs 3,000 dollars per year when I don't use anything close to that. It's all shit. Complete shit. Obama is a shit.

You guys STILL don't understand why you pay so much for insurance?

Juanita and Rosa say "Much gracias - medical gratas"
>>
>>56533104

Bern and his state already tried, for four years, to make single payer real. They abandoned it because the tax burden would shock the economy. The cost on the taxpayer was something like 10% income tax (coming from 3.5-9%) - and they would still be negative in the checkbook.

Based on the top article if you google "bernie sanders vt health care," which provides a figure of $2.59bn to $3.17bn and VTs population, in 5 years each taxpayer would have to pay $3333 just on extra tax to foot the bill. On top of that they would have to pay for their insurance.

Single payer is a system based on the ignorance of the voters.
>>
Just don't buy insurance. By law, Democrats made sure it wouldn't be a crime if you didn't pay the penalty (can't be locking up democrat voters). The only way the IRS can ever get the penalty money is through a tax return. They can't issue a lien or do anything to affect your credit.

There's enough way to legally Jew your taxes to offset the penalty and then some.

As far as hospitals go, if you are poor, you can usually get some rich person to pay your tab at tax season. It's a write-off for them. Ask your local hospital and they probably have a list you can get on, as they have donors willing to pay off peoples' debts every year just to save shekels on their tax bill.

They'll never completely end, but if we have an economic downturn, expect fewer of them and higher credit requirements. That's what happened last time around. But right now, there are multiple companies even pushing the limits to 15 months. I think both Chase and Citi are doing cards like that now. Even Wal-Mart has an offer right now where if you get their credit card, you can get up to 24 months (I think) 0% interest depending on how much you spend at once. I think you can get six months if you spend $150 and it goes up from there.

You have a solid travel card that can be used in conjunction with air miles.

For someone of low income it will be $695. I didn't feel it was worth adding this additional info that will be of no value to this person.

It's comparable to the amount you were supposed to pay for the year. Even more I think.
But they have to catch it in an tax audit.

I love how you're fucked if you don't give them at least 8 percent of your paycheck because of some dumb fucking scam they created.

For around a year I didn't but finally had one again in July. Having a car around he is also a need because everything is too spread out and not very pedestrian(sidewalk placement is very inconsistant if there even is any) or mass transit friendly. I'm in a suburb that's west of Charlotte so it's not like it's not all farmland
People are saying "oh just move to another state" in this thread but that complicates things even more. Plus this is my home I don't need to be anywhere else. Think some can understand that.

I have a family of four. No smoking, drinking, history of serious illness, etc. I have private insurance, and pay $1100 a month. We, collectively, have a $6000 deductible.

If I were to abandon insurance and pay my own way, I expect to pay less than $1100 a year.

$300 a month here with $5k deductible.

I refuse to shell out $300 a month.

I don't get how people say this will be repealed and replaced with single payer

It's going to cost so much if it fails and probably cost even more with single payer

Is anyone actually enforcing it, though?

>apparently not

>Also, OP, consider moving to a state that isn't shit.

They're all shit

I'm a single childless male, yet I'm forced to pay pediatric dental and maternity care. That increased my insurance by $80. I haven't checked yet if it's gone up since last year
