I'm not religious, fortunately not being an atheist either though I can understand that religion brings something out in people. For example, the largely atheist countries in the West are literally handing over everything they have, ironically, to people from third world shitholes who do believe in a god. When you get older you'll find people are much more willing to fight for an ideology than they are for anything else. I would say people are more likely to fight for family and their own genes first and foremost, but the situation at present completely disproves that. Enjoy your Syrians.
