As problems emerge and corruption expands it drowns more resources, but because the pool of resources is so large it takes forever to see unrest. The trigger for the middle east was the cost of goods, especially food. It's no coincidence that revolutions occurred in 2011 when commodity prices spiked. You can say "i won't protest because i'm afraid of losing my job" but eventually you won't have shit. Capitalism is a system that lets people allocate resources themselves to become more efficient, eventually regular people don't make their own food or goods. Once the corruption and problems can't be paved over by existing capital, the whole fucking thing explodes. Nobody wants to see revolutions like egypt but if people can't feed their kids then it's all over. I'm surprised greece hasn't fallen off the cliff yet but they're still hanging on just barely.
The main point is that people eventually fall off the edge and stop caring anymore. Nothing matters except survival and instincts dominate everything.
When you fall into civil war and start dying en masse, don't ask America for help.
