Sale of oil to other countries supported the economies of pretty much all the countries whose leftist governments are now in trouble. Those leftist vote buy schemes ("social policies") were fully supported by the income from selling that oil to outsiders. The price of oil collapsed and so did the countries' economies and social programs. The drop in oil prices and the crash in the economies of the countries exposed the gross mismanagement of countries' finances and outright theft by officials that would have otherwise been covered up by oil revenue. The two biggest examples of this are Venezuela and the shithole you live in.
