We had decades to help our own kind, the government never did. When that picture of the syrian kid in the water appeared, immediately the British people did a 180 turn and forced their government to listen to them about the syrian struggle. No one gave a fucking shit about our own homeless, and there was no outcry about them compared to those of the syrian families.
And as you know, the media spun too, changing 'immigrants' to 'refugee's' and using the world 'families' to describe them a LOT more. If our public reacted to our own problems with such noise online as what they did with Syria, the government would HAVE to do something.
