>The shrine has been the target of violent attacks before, though they have been small in scale. In 2013, the Foreign Ministry petitioned the South Korean government to extradite a Chinese national suspected of having set fire to part of the shrine two years earlier, before fleeing to South Korea. A South Korean court rejected the request.
>Monday was a national holiday in Japan, and the explosion occurred just after a ceremony in which newly harvested rice was presented to the spirits of the dead. Some families had also taken their children to the shrine for ceremonial blessings. After the explosion, the shrine closed its main hall to visitors and turned away families seeking the blessings, the news media reported.

This is partially true.
True, our youthful generation of people are actually more resentful of Japanese aggression than our elders now. Why, the country just celebrated an Counter-Japanese Resistence Holiday in September. Problem is, many of today's youth get sucked into Japanese anime culture just like the quintessential weeaboo does. Furthermore, Chinese pornography doesn't legally exist, so there's a great number of Chinese viewers that also get sucked into the culture via porn. Even the peasantry have their portion of Japanese fans. A big conflict of emotions, really.
And they have more to atone than just that, Chinese military fatalities were more of a problem of insufficient planning, but civilian deaths; just like the Holocaust, you can debate the severity, but you can't outright deny the whole shebang. Innocent blood was spilt and a half-hearted apology just won't cut it.
