Oswald was mentally unstable with delusions of grandeur. He was an avowed communist, but had to slit his wrists in order to stay in the Soviet Union. He thought that by killing Kennedy, he was helping "free" Cuba from US imperialism. Despite all this, he acted alone.

The big mistake was killing him due to the fact that he was lived so much by literally anyone that he could have passed almost anything with no less than 80% support. He was the founder of the great society and would have prevented the New Deal coalition from ever collapsing and would have seen to it that not another Republican was elected as they would have eventually turned us into a full on community ist/socialist society completely reliant on the government and therefore the Republicans would no longer have the option to head the government.
Getting rid of him was the worst mistake they ever made, because they took him out it has taken them a little over 50 years to move 5 steps to the left whereas if they hadn't killed him we would be 90 steps to the left and that would have happened in 20 years of his term ending.

In my opinion, I think there was more than just Oswald out by the Dealey Plaza that day. Sure there's no proof but there was countless people who wanted him dead. They probably made sure there was other people there to make sure the deed was done. Oswald was probably just a patsy.
