The civil war in Syria began because Syria was experiencing a decade long drought and the farmers, with no where to turn, went into the cities and started protesting assad. It went on peacefully for a couple of weeks until Assad started shooting them and terror factions started blowing themselves up in the crowds, creating chaos. Drought was directly responsible for the instability in Syria that led to civil war, that cause the refugee crisis, that allowed the attackers to get into paris.
