Go to the Legion website for details. French is not necessary to join as most recruits would not be able to speak it. You learn as you go. The only way to join is to go and knock on their door. There is no other way of joining, no applications forms or any other nonsense. You turn up and if they think you are good enough you can sign up for 5years minimum. You might not get a MOS/AFSC with a TS clearance (unless you're a linguist), but you're probably still qualified for 95% of the jobs available in the ARMY as a foreign national.
The common misperception is that they'll take anyone, but that's not so. Something like 70% fail their physical fitness test on the first day. On the endurance running part they don't even tell you the minimum distance and speed --they simply say GO, and you run your best until they say STOP; only THEY know what is required and they keep that a secret.
Their basic training is very long and hard and the minimum commitment is 5 years.
Over 50% desert during their first hitch.
The Legion is a very, very big deal and it's not everyone who can do it.
