You are underestimating them, which is a very foolish thing to do. They aren't just mindless savages; they have modern equipment, money, ideology and plenty of manpower. Right now they are building infrastructure in the areas they control and indoctrinating the next generation of jihadists. ISIS is not a group of assholes that will just go away if stop "romanticizing" them.

All Muslim societies are oppressive. I've visited the best of them and would cheerfully gas the lot. I dont dislike them particularly because of their religion; in fact they have some things I like, like halal butchering, (when its actually done right, because Im an animal lover who enjoys meat, and its one of the few remaining culture who at least claim to have some respect for the animals used for food) and their banking is more oriented to actual community and business growth then financial tricks and blatant greed and exploitation.
The unique cultural aspects among the middle class and above are actually pretty nice; some architecture and design, some food, some music and lesser things.
According to DeGrasse Tyson, they were actually pretty advanced before their cultural leaders went full retard for religion. He credits them for some astronomy and math.
That said, that was then and this is now. And while I can geek on the menu of some hookah cafe or whatever and enjoy the food, it doesn't mean I want to live in an alien culture, nor do I particularly want to live among them. Morocco, Jorday... these places are said to be above average, and even Egypt had something of a society once in the last century. And then there is Iran which- for all of its political horseshit- is still considered a decent culture, if you subtract the religious zealotry in politics. Although there is some question as to whether or not Iran is really ethnically muslim; theres a debate about it...
Either way, I dont want them as a majority anywhere I would live. I hear trouble is slowly brewing around their enclave in Dearborn and the surrounding areas.
I just dont attribute the ills of self aggrandizing assholes to religion. People misuse faith among commoners constantly; its not unique to Islam. And as it happens, someone had to be last in civilization, and if you discount Africa, it just happened to be in the geography where- no surprise- there are a ton of people, and they happen to be Muslims.
The media often portrays them as being completely insane and irrational and while it seems this way they always have an underlying goal in mind. Take the rise of the far right in Europe and the recent attack in Paris for example, the attack served to create a further rift between the muslims and the people that live in France. This will lead to more radical muslims who will feel discriminated against and will therfore support and even join isis. Their leaders know that there is a large muslim population in France and so seeked to exploit it.

I am just saying that the mythology they choose is irrelevant. You find that sort of thing in most religious texts, at least among the Abrahamic ones.
