m8, just go look up photos of Afghanistan or Iran in the 1950s and 1960s. Or go read up about Gamal Abdel Nasser who was the president of Egypt in the 60s. The region was not always a broken piece of shit, and lots of places were getting better and more modern and more tolerant.

Even today, places like Bahrain, Oman, UAE, Kuwait aren't complete and total shit shows. They aren't good by any measure but they aren't vile and savage places.
