That's literally what happened though. He said to Bill O'Reilly we have to do something because you need to help refugees, but then he actually looked into the issue and realized they were all fighting age men and started questioning why they weren't fighting in Syria and called Merkel crazy.

You need to keep in mind Donald Trump is NOT a careful / organized guy. This is a negative in some ways, but that's just how he is. He prefers to shoot from the hip and go off of instinct, and a lot of times he ends up saying things one day that he'll change his mind on later when he's had the time to actually dig into the topic. It's a positive trait too though in that you get a sort of honesty from him that you don't see in the hardcore chessmaster type politicians who micromanage their every media sound byte.
